Getting the Size Right: A Practical Guide to Picking a Print

Spending some time hanging my own prints around our home, I’ve learned that the "vibe" of a space often has less to do with the furniture and more to do with how a piece of art directs your eyes and your energy.

If you’re staring at a blank wall and aren't sure where to start, here is how I think about my print tiers based on what I've seen work on my own walls.

The Focal Point (Statement & Master Tiers)

Sizes: 36×24 or 48×32 inches

There’s a certain confidence in a massive print. When a piece takes up a big chunk of the wall, above a sofa or a headboard. It stops being "decor" and starts being the anchor of the room.

In my experience, one large, expansive forest landscape can actually make a small room feel bigger. It reduces visual clutter by giving your eyes one place to rest. Those large pieces tend to work in open living areas, master bedrooms, or even a professional office looking for a single, grounding focal point.

The Conversationalist (Medium & Large Tiers)

Sizes: 24×16 or 30×20 inches

These are the most versatile sizes I offer. They don’t shout for attention the second you walk in, but they invite you to come closer once you’ve settled into the room.

These are "eye-level" pieces. Because I focus on "intimate landscapes", the smaller details of the Appalachian woods, these sizes let you see the textures of the moss and the bark without needing a magnifying glass. In entryways, hallways, or home offices they fill the space perfectly without overwhelming the furniture they sit above.

The Intimate Detail (Small Tier)

Size: 12×8 inches

I like to call these the "Easter eggs" of a home. You usually don’t notice them from across the room; you find them when you’re pausing in a quiet corner or reaching for a book.

It feels personal. A small print tucked into a bookshelf or resting on a nightstand feels like a quiet memory of the woods brought indoors. They work in Kitchen nooks, bathrooms, or nestled into a "shelfie." They add a layer of soul to the functional spaces we use every day.

Finding the Right Fit for Your Wall

Choosing a size doesn't have to be a science. Ultimately, the best print is the one that makes you want to stop and look for an extra second before you move on with your day. Whether it's a massive masterwork for your living room or a tiny 12x8 tucked into a bookshelf, it should feel like a window into the woods.

Visualize your space to find how a piece may fit into your "vibe."
